This week our speaker is Past District Governor George Grant to talk about RAWCS.
Another Nambour Show done and dusted with many of us helping out at the Nambour Club's food stall. A few also helped at the Woombye-Palmwoods canteen. The general consensus was that, despite the excellent weather, attendance at the show was down on previous years.
Our next ventures will be the GPAI Rock & Roll dance on July 6th followed the next weekend by the Garden Expo. The requirements for the dance are several people to help set up at about 4 pm and a few to help on the bar and in the kitchen during the night and then to help clean up.
At the Garden Expo some will help in the Nambour foodstall again but our main effort will be managing the Bli Bli gate for the 3 days. We will need 6 or 7 people from early morning on the Friday and Saturday and 4 to 5 on the Sunday. Watch for the blue book this week.
Of course all this fundraising gives us the opportunity to help many local and overseas causes. We recently donated $500 to the Salvation Army for their school lunch program and for whatever reason the demand for that program has diminished. The Army asked if the money could instead be directed to their Just Brass initiative.
Just Brass is a Salvation Army children's music program focused on developing young people in a safe healthy and fun environment. Many disadvantaged children do not have the opportunity to learn music in school even though it has been established that music education has the potential to improve  a child's academic performance and general well-being in school. Students, primarily at Burnside Primary and Nambour State College are provided with an instrument which they must take home for practice . They are given free individual or group music tuition in their school and they meet weekly  after school at the Nambour Salvation Army headquarters for ensemble rehearsals.
Hopefully we can increase our support  for this initiative.
